About the film :
In spring 2014, Russia took advantage of the power vacuum in Kyiv to destabilise Ukraine and carried out an unacknowledged separatist operation in Donbass. Armed groups of pro-Russian rebels took control of local authorities and announced a referendum on secession from Ukraine. Based on concrete human experiences and situations, filmmaker Antony Butts captures the determination and passion, but also the naivety, arrogance and cruelty of the participants in the coup. The revolution brings to power highly controversial figures, and its former adherents are often left disillusioned to learn that they were mere pawns controlled by more powerful players.

The post-screening debate will feature Olga Abramenko, director of ADC Memorial, along with human rights defenders from Ukraine and guests.

The 11th annual One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival takes place in Brussels from April 24th to May 4th, 2017, screening documentaries from around the world with the compelling themes of human rights, political upheaval, development and social justice, as well as hosting rich panel discussions.
